Spiritualists to commemorate past and present members who have served their country
New memorial is first to recognise sacrifice of Spiritualists
A service on 10th July 2010 will mark the dedication of Spiritualists' first ever memorial to members that have served in the UK Armed Forces. The imposing memorial, which features a tall granite obelisk, will be unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire.
Celebrate Cosford Museum's annual joint service Armed Forces Day on 26th June
The Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford, is inviting Veterans, young and old, from all three services to join as one to celebrate the Museum's Armed Forces' Day on Saturday 26th June. During this special reunion, hosted by Museum staff, all Veterans will be treated to a full day's programme of events and activities including a talk entitled 'An Event on 30th August 1940', plus special film screenings. Both depict the Battle of Britain, marking this year's 70th Anniversary.
Telford and Wrekin Results shock
The election results in the Telford and Wrekin constituencies certainly provided some drama. At one point it was expected that the Telford Count would be reported at 1am, but this was delayed. In fact the Wrekin Count was finished before the Telford result was declared. In the event, both declarations were made by Chief Executive Victor Brownlees by around 2am. Somewhat earlier than in previous elections, it must be noted.
Glitz and Glamour at the Mayor’s Charity Ball
Telford and Wrekin Mayor, Councillor Karen Blundell, will be hosting her forthcoming Charity Ball on Friday 23 April 2010.
The theme for this year’s event is classic Hollywood glamour in the style of the Oscars, set in the timelessly elegant surroundings of the Hadley Park House Hotel.
Upon arrival guests will be greeted by the ‘paparazzi’, performed by Little Flock Theatre, and a number of ‘celebrities’ courtesy of Wrockwardine Wood Arts College, who will join guests on the red carpet and during the reception.
Shropshire Army Cadets Celebrate 150 of cadetting
Shropshire Army Cadet force will be celebrating being part of the oldest Youth organisation in the United Kingdom. 2010 marks 150 years since the Cadet movement first started, when the Cadet Corps was formed to help bolster the country's defence numbers following heavy losses in the Crimean War.
Armed incident in Trench
Police in Telford have confirmed they have this morning responded to a call from an address in Trench reporting that a firearm of some sort had been discharged at a nearby property.
Police received the call from a concerned member of the public at 10.25am on Wednesday 20th January and a number of officers responded immediately and rushed to an address on James Close.

Final preparations are almost complete ahead of a West Mercia Police Commendation Evening that is being held this evening, Monday 2nd November, to honour the work of officers and staff from the Force’s Telford & Wrekin Division.
Police express satisfaction at robbery sentence
Detective Inspector Steve Tonks from West Mercia Police has expressed his satisfaction having late yesterday seen five men – Brian Moran (aged 24), Colin Farrell (27), Paul Fielding (aged 26), David Dargan (aged 24) and Gregory Burke (aged 25) – given significant custodial sentences at Wolverhampton Crown Court for their part in a robbery that took place in Dawley in September 2008.
The robbery itself occurred at the Lloyds TSB Bank on the High Street at just after 9.15am on Friday 5th September as staff refilled the cashpoint at the branch.
Hadley drugs warrant executed
On Tuesday 22 September a man was arrested after Police Officers from Response Team B (North) and the Armed Response Vehicle (ARV) in Telford executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property on Crescent Road in Hadley.
The warrant was executed at 7.30am, as a result of developed intelligence and information received from members of the public via the anonymous Crimestoppers telephone number.
Summer fun day to unite communities
A summer fun day aimed at uniting communities is being held at a Telford leisure centre on September 2 from 10am to 3pm. Organised by Partners and Communities Together (PACT), the event at Oakengates Leisure Centre will provide a range of fun and free activities for all the family.
Free activities include face painting, a Punch and Judy show, donkey rides, paintball, dance workshops and competitions, along with a 30ft climbing wall and gigantic inflatable obstacle courses. All activities will take place at the leisure centre’s Astroturf Arena.
