Shropshire Licensees Urged to Join "Challenge 25" Scheme
The police Licensing Officer for Shropshire is urging licensees to adopt a national initiative to help them identify underage drinkers.
Mr Tony Mantle says licensees need to tighten up their checks or else risk being penalised, including possibly having their licence revoked.
His warning to publicans, nightclubs, restaurants, off-licences and other alcohol licence holders follows the shocking results of a test purchasing operation carried out by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by the police.
Police Seek Identity of Burglary Suspects
Police are seeking to identify two suspects captured on CCTV cameras while trying to break into a home at Alveley, near Bridgnorth.
The men fled the premises when a burglar alarm was activated as they tried to force open a window.
Officers investigating the attempted break-in have now released CCTV images of the two suspects in the hope they will be recognised.
Detective Constable Jason Whelan, the investigating officer, said: “I am appealing to anyone who thinks they might know these men to contact me at Bridgnorth CID on 0300 333 3000.
Theft from Grave in Worfield
Police are appealing for information after items were stolen from a grave at Worfield Cemetery, near Bridgnorth.
A metal plaque bearing the word “Superbike” was taken from a wreath together with a model of an Aprilla motorcycle still in its box.
The theft was reported yesterday (Thursday) but is believed to have taken place between August 13 and 25.
Broseley Drugs Warrant - Man Arrested
Police carried out a search warrant at a house in Broseley last night as part of the on-going campaign targeting people in the Bridgnorth area suspected of being involved in illegal drugs.
A man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis, a controlled Class B drug.
The search was made at a home in Foundry Lane at around 9pm after magistrates granted a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
A small amount of cannabis and several associated items were recovered by officers. The man has been given a formal police warning.
Man Arrested Following Drugs Warrant in Bridgnorth
A man has been arrested when police officers carried out a drugs warrant at a home in Bridgnorth.
Eight officers were involved in executing the warrant at a house in The Hookfield on Saturday morning.
They made a forced entry and seized 12 cannabis plants and a number of associated items.
A man was arrested at the premises and has since been charged with cultivating cannabis and obstructing the police. He was bailed to appear before Telford magistrates next month.
Shropshire Licensees Fail Police Sting
Pubs, clubs and restaurants across Shropshire have been caught out selling alcohol to underage council spies in a “sting” operation mounted by Trading Standards officers and police.
Licensees in three towns fell foul of the law in a series of test purchase visits during Operation Knight, a joint exercise by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by West Mercia Police.
The two agencies are warning pub landlords and others in the licensed trade they risk being closed down if they ‘persist’ in selling alcoholic drink to young people under 18.
Police investigate Sub Station Burglary
Police are appealing for witnesses to a break-in at an electricity substation in Shifnal.
The burglary happened between 9pm last Friday (Aug 13) and 1.20pm on Saturday.
A padlock was removed from the doors of the substation in Innage Lane and a search of the premises carried out.
Nothing was stolen but more than £400 damage was caused, including the setting off of two fire extinguishers.
Bridgnorth Police Officers Commended For Running Crime Op
Two Bridgnorth police officers have been commended for mounting a major operation against local criminals, including drug dealers. The initiative, called Operation Artic, resulted in a series of arrests and more than 30 offences being detected across the Bridgnorth area.
Gate Stolen from Hamlet near Bridgnorth
Police in Bridgnorth are appealing for information after a gate was stolen from outside a premises in a nearby hamlet.
It is the second time the address in Romsley Lane, Romsley has been the target of thieves, after a trailer was stolen in May of this year.
The fixings holding the gate were cut and the gate removed between about 10am and 2pm yesterday, August 10.
Anyone who might have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who has any information as to who may be responsible is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.
Bridgnorth Pubwatch Scheme Revitalised
A new campaign is being launched to revitalise Bridgnorth's Pubwatch scheme to ensure the town remains a safe and friendly haven for people visiting licensed premises.
Bridgnorth Pubwatch was set up by the local police in June 2003 and although it has 17 members, the scheme has lost impetus in recent months with only a handful attending meetings.
But current chairperson Tracey Dobell, of The Harp, working with Shropshire's new Best Bar None and Pubwatch Co-ordinator Kelly Harris, is determined to develop the scheme and recruit new members.
