The new and improved First Point Telford has opened in Civic Offices and residents are now visiting for help, advice and information from a wide range of Council and partner services.

The new facility has built on the success of the credit crunch advice centre which opened last February in Telford Library.

PostHeaderIcon Borough backs Fairtrade Fortnight

Telford & Wrekin Council have been showing their support for Fairtrade Fortnight with a stall selling Fairtrade goodies including crafts, jewellery, tea, coffee, cake, biscuits, chocolate and much more.

The stall was in Civic Offices on Monday 1 March, and organisers were delighted to have raised £111 over the course of a few hours.

If you missed the stall but would like to purchase Fairtrade products, supermarkets in the borough such as the Co op, Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s sell a wide range of Fairtrade goods.

PostHeaderIcon Young people voting to elect YP reps

Young people in Telford and Wrekin have been voting throughout January and February to elect their representative and his or her deputy on the UK Youth Parliament.

An ongoing electoral process for 11-18 year olds will culminate at the council’s Civic Offices on Wednesday (FEB 10) when young people will open ballot boxes to find the candidate.

Telford & Wrekin Council has been proactively promoting the work of the Youth Parliament and it is hoped that more than 5,000 young people will vote in this year’s election.

Telford & Wrekin Council has organised a fun-packed programme of activities for young people throughout the borough this half-term, which runs from Monday, 15 to Friday, 19 February 2010.

The first holiday programme of 2010 promises to be great fun while offering something for everyone with a wide variety of activities every day.

Newport, Oakengates and Wellington pools have crash course swimming lessons available for juniors – or if skating is of more interest, Telford Ice Rink is running a course for any age or ability.

PostHeaderIcon Haygate and Ercall Ward residents invited to PACT meeting

Residents living in the Haygate & Ercall Local Policing area are being invited to attend a PACT Meeting that is being held in the ward.

PACT (Partners and Communities Together) will be staging the meeting to encourage and allow members of the public to discuss community issues with the various represented organisations.

The meeting will take place in the Committee Room at Wellington Civic Centre on Larkin Way, off Tan Bank on Wednesday 27th January.

PostHeaderIcon Three weeks left to take part in consultation on parish arrangements

People in Lilleshall, Donnington and Muxton and in Dawley and Malinslee have until 29 January to comment on Telford & Wrekin Council’s Draft Proposals that there should be no changes to the present parish council arrangements in their areas.

The Telford & Wrekin Council has been conducting a review of the parish arrangements for these areas.

This followed the receipt of two petitions for the creation of separate parishes with their own parish councils for Lilleshall and Dawley.

PostHeaderIcon Double consultation is ‘nonsense’: Council

Telford & Wrekin Council has slammed NHS proposals to consult the public twice over the future of health services in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin. Council leader Andrew Eade said: “The NHS proposes to leave key services at the Princess Royal Hospital as they are for ‘up to’ three years while consulting on short to medium term options for healthcare in the area.

“They then propose to consult on recommendations for most services to be concentrated on just one hospital site by 2020.

PostHeaderIcon Something to go on. Wellington regeneration gets underway

Work started this week on the demolition of a disused toilet block in Wellington. This marked the start of the preparatory works for the regeneration of what will be Wellington’s new, exciting Civic Quarter.
The council have also received approval from the Secretary of State to demolish of the former information centre and flat roofed extensions to Edgbaston House. It is hoped the work will be completed before year’s end.

PostHeaderIcon Energy Saving Week

Energy Saving Week is a national annual event supported by the Energy Saving Trust running from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 October 2009. This year Telford & Wrekin Council’s Environmental Projects Team along with local councillors will be running drop in sessions around the borough during the week to offer help and advice for people aimed at reducing the amount of energy they use at home.

There will be plenty of giveaways including energy saving light bulbs and save a flush water saving systems.

PostHeaderIcon Youngsters prepare for Question Time

 

Young people across Telford & Wrekin are looking forward to a special BBC-style Question Time event as part of the borough’s Local Democracy Month.

Tomorrow’s event at Telford & Wrekin Council’s civic offices will be hosted by Radio Shropshire breakfast show presenter Eric Smith and will focus on five major issues affecting young people highlighted by the responses to a recent survey.
