Two new Police Community Support Officers began work in north Shropshire today. They have joined West Mercia’s Local Policing teams in Market Drayton Town and Whitchurch Town areas.

CSO Andy Hudson has been appointed to the Market Drayton post working with PC Paul Frank and CSOs Andy King, Angeline Roche and Mike Ellis. CSO Alison Hodnett becomes part of the Whitchurch team, alongside PC Karena Evans and CSOs Tim Meredith, Graeme Baines and Laura Viner.

Police today renewed warnings for people never to leave handbags or any other valuable items in their unattended cars and always ensure their vehicles are locked up and secure.

The advice comes after a bag was stolen from the boot of an insecure car in the car park at Lyth Hill, near Shrewsbury, while the owner was walking her dog.

She had placed the straw and raffia handbag in the boot of the car at about midday and when she returned at about 2pm, it was missing, along with a bag of dog food.

Harper Adams University College is delighted to announce four new scholarships aimed at attracting top class postgraduate students.  The Professional Postgraduate Scholarships are open to graduates hoping to study in the following areas - estate and land management, farm and agri-business management, sustainable agriculture, crop protection and agronomy, food and business.

To be eligible, students need to be admitted to a full-time or part-time Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in the above subjects, for 2010/11.

A car was vandalised and rubbish, including what is believed to be human faeces, was left inside while it was parked up in Oswestry.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, which happened in the car park of Willow Street Medical Centre, to contact them on 0300 333 3000.

The five new post-holders who will be starting between now and the Autumn have filled roles in the agri-food and land-based research fields at the University College to address the global challenges of food and bio-energy security.

The research positions are in quantitative economics, social psychology, animal molecular biology and soil ecology.

A cast of hundreds of performers, from hip hop dancers to Viking hordes, are set to invade the centre of Telford for the borough’s biggest free event of the summer - CultureFest in Telford Town Park this Saturday, July 24.

The event, now in its third year, promises to be the biggest and best CultureFest yet, with the fun starting from 11am.

Among the names performing are winners of this year’s Telford’s Talent competition dance group High Definition who will kick off proceedings on the main stage, hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith.
