Wrexham & Shropshire put on extra summer trains

Wrexham & Shropshire celebrates second anniversary
Wrexham & Shropshire is today toasting the second anniversary since the launch of its direct service to London Marylebone on 28 April 2008.
Wrexham & Shropshire has become a local success story bringing quality service and great value fares to communities that had been without a direct service for many years. The company's quality of service has been recognised by passengers, having recently achieved a 98% customer satisfaction rating in this year's National Passenger Survey, the highest rating in the survey's history.
Rail travellers delayed
Rail travellers going to London Marylebone and the West Midlands were delayed during the morning commute, Wellington News can reveal.
The 8.21 Wrexham and Shropshire to London Marylebone arrived at Wellington at 9.00 and other trains were as late as 45 minutes.

Councillors join trial county train service
Councillors from Telford & Wrekin have travelled on the first ever direct train from a Shropshire station to London. Council leader Councillor Andrew Eade and Councillor Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration, joined the Chiltern Railways service from Bridgnorth to London Marylebone.
Councillor Andrew Eade said: “Travelling on board the first ever direct train from Bridgnorth, Bewdley to London Marylebone was a fantastic experience. The service provided the local community and visitors an alternative route to London to enjoy a great day out.”
More carriages for Wrexham and Shropshire
Wrexham & Shropshire is adding extra carriages to its trains to cope with the expected demand over half term next week – giving even more people the opportunity to enjoy a day out in the capital. This will mean that more families will be able to enjoy the lower prices of Wrexham and Shropshire Railways and its direct return rail service from Shropshire to London Marylebone. Not only do you have the advantage of a direct through route from the county to London Marylebone rail terminus.
WSR prepares for big day
As the build-up to the big day continues, it's not just the Shrewsbury Town football team that are in training. Local rail company Wrexham & Shropshire is also busy preparing for its biggest day ever. The company will be moving as many seats in three hours as they would normally do in three days, and everyone is working overtime to ensure it goes without a hitch. For example, driver instructor Steve Roast, from sister company Chiltern Railways, is being trained to drive the route between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
London Train services not ‘slashed’
With effect from Monday 9 March, Wrexham & Shropshire will be making changes to its timetable. But they denied that the service has been ‘slashed’ as reported in some media outlets. Following a review of customer travel patterns - and in the context of the current economic climate - the company has decided to reduce some of the least used weekday services. Weekend services are unaffected.
Wrexham & Shropshire up for award?
Wrexham & Shropshire Railway is in the running to win an award at the prestigious HSBC Rail Business Awards. The company has entered the 'Train Operator' category, which recognises the train company providing the most outstanding customer service in the UK. Wrexham & Shropshire now has a nervous wait to find out if it has beaten off stiff competition from 15 other train operators to win the award.
