WSR prepares for big day
As the build-up to the big day continues, it's not just the Shrewsbury Town football team that are in training. Local rail company Wrexham & Shropshire is also busy preparing for its biggest day ever. The company will be moving as many seats in three hours as they would normally do in three days, and everyone is working overtime to ensure it goes without a hitch. For example, driver instructor Steve Roast, from sister company Chiltern Railways, is being trained to drive the route between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury.
London Train services not ‘slashed’
With effect from Monday 9 March, Wrexham & Shropshire will be making changes to its timetable. But they denied that the service has been ‘slashed’ as reported in some media outlets. Following a review of customer travel patterns - and in the context of the current economic climate - the company has decided to reduce some of the least used weekday services. Weekend services are unaffected.

Wrexham & Shropshire now has a nervous wait to find out if it has beaten off stiff competition from 15 other train operators to win the award.

Thomas Telford in town
The recently inaugurated direct rail link with Shropshire and London has come as a big boost to the area and in particular Wellington. For the first time in many years it is possible to hop on a train at Wellington station and travel in some comfort direct to the capital.
All down to the hard work of Wrexham, Shropshire and Marylebone Railway (WS&MR) who fought hard and long and against the ‘big operators’ objections to achieve this service for Shropshire.
