Wellington residents, businesses and visitors are being urged to have their say on the latest plans to regenerate the market town. Work is under way on a brand new £8.5 million Civic Quarter and a £1.2 million scheme to repave Market Square, New Street and the pedestrianised part of Walker Street between Rasputins and the Halifax Bank.

Consultation has now started to ask people for their opinions on whether key streets in the town centre should be pedestrianised.

A cast of hundreds of performers, from hip hop dancers to Viking hordes, are set to invade the centre of Telford for the borough’s biggest free event of the summer - CultureFest in Telford Town Park this Saturday, July 24.

The event, now in its third year, promises to be the biggest and best CultureFest yet, with the fun starting from 11am.

Among the names performing are winners of this year’s Telford’s Talent competition dance group High Definition who will kick off proceedings on the main stage, hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Eric Smith.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury is urging town residents and businesses to get behind final preparations for this year’s In Bloom campaign.

Heart of England judges will visit the town on July 20 when hundreds of floral hanging baskets, planters and containers, installed by the Town Council, will be judged against exacting criteria.

The Rifles Regiment will be in town on Saturday 29 May to receive the Freedom of the Borough from Telford & Wrekin Council.

Local residents and visitors can meet with the Rifles from 10:30am onwards in Telford Town Park where the Regiment will hold a display and arranging activities for people to take part in.

Telford & Wrekin residents, visitors to the borough and people from all over Shropshire and beyond will be able to meet the Rifles Regiment in Telford on Saturday, May 29 when Telford & Wrekin Council will be honouring the Regiment with the Freedom of the Borough.

A parade for inspection and the Freedom Ceremony will be held in Telford Town Park Arena and the Regiment will be staging a display of their vehicles around the area of the old Norman Chapel where visitors have the chance to meet with members of the Regiment.

PostHeaderIcon Council to honour the Rifles Regiment with the Freedom of the Borough

Telford & Wrekin Council is set to honour the Rifles Regiment with the Freedom of the Borough.

This will be the first time Telford & Wrekin has honoured a regiment with the tribute and it is the highest honour that the authority can bestow.

Last year the council took the decision to honour the Rifles and the ceremony will take place in The Arena at Telford Town Park on Saturday, May 29.

The Rifles Regiment is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army, consisting of five regular and two territorial battalions, plus a number of companies.

Telford and Wrekin Borough Council are asking people to mark St George’s Day the day after St George’s Day on Saturday 24 April 2010, when all borough residents are invited to Southwater Square to take part in a Medieval party atmosphere.

Telford & Wrekin Council is organising its second year of St Georges Day celebrations – a day packed full of activities, performances and stalls inside Telford Library and outside in the square and Town Park.

Telford and Wrekin Mayor, Councillor Karen Blundell, will be hosting her forthcoming Charity Ball on Friday 23 April 2010.

The theme for this year’s event is classic Hollywood glamour in the style of the Oscars, set in the timelessly elegant surroundings of the Hadley Park House Hotel.

Upon arrival guests will be greeted by the ‘paparazzi’, performed by Little Flock Theatre, and a number of ‘celebrities’ courtesy of Wrockwardine Wood Arts College, who will join guests on the red carpet and during the reception.

Tenants of Shropshire’s largest landlord, The Wrekin Housing Trust, are being invited to the fourth annual Tenants’ Conference later this month.

The one day event, which is organised by tenants for tenants, will be held on Saturday 23 January, between 9.30am and 4.00pm, at the Trust’s Old Park offices and is open to all Trust tenants.
