Detectives Commended For Child Abuse Investigation
Three Shropshire detectives have been commended for their investigation into the sexual abuse of young children resulting in the offender being jailed for 14 years.
Detective Constables Sarah Matthews, Nicola Cassidy and Sarah Smither have been awarded Divisional Commendations for their "dedication and commitment in sensitively dealing with vulnerable child victims, thereby securing a conviction against the offender."
The man was convicted of nine serious sexual offences and was sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison.
Tribute to Shrewsbury Man Joshua Wreford
The fiancée of a man who died after going missing following a night out in Shrewsbury today paid tribute to a ‘real character’ who was the ‘life and soul of every party’. Catherine Moore-Hughes, known as ‘Tez’, said her partner Joshua Wreford would want people to celebrate his life rather than feel upset he had gone.
Lost Boy from China Reunited with his Mum Thanks to Police and Local Restaurant Workers
A little boy from China who got lost in South Shropshire was quickly reunited with his relieved mum thanks to the help of the police and two restaurant staff from Ludlow.
The eight-year-old boy had only arrived in the country on Tuesday July 27, to visit his mum who lives in Cleobury Mortimer.
He had gone for a walk yesterday afternoon but, not knowing the area, had got lost, ending up in the middle of nowhere, over a mile outside the town on the A4117.

Mysterious signs have been attached to the wall of the waste land informing motorists that the land is private and clamping might take place.
The signs are placed quite high on the wall and could easily be missed. The lettering is quite small, but clearly the land is private and motorists have no right to park there.
Police Seek Relatives of Shrewsbury Man
Police are appealing for information in a bid to trace relatives of a 65-year-old man found dead at his home in Shrewsbury.
Mr Ronald Herbert Barrett was discovered on Sunday when police gained entry to his house in Sultan Road, Castlefields, after being alerted by concerned neighbours.
A post mortem showed he died from natural causes and there are no suspicious circumstances.
Coroner's Officer Mr Phil Tyler said today: "Very little seems to be known about Mr Barrett and we have been unable to trace any family.
Jail Sentence Welcomed by Senior Detective
A senior Shropshire detective has welcomed the jail sentence imposed on a 29-year-old man who helped run a cannabis farm in a rented industrial unit.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mick Homden said: “Those involved in the production and supply of drugs in the county will clearly receive little sympathy from the courts.
“Tackling those involved in drug dealing is a top priority for the police and will continue to be so. More than 10 defendants have received lengthy prison sentences at Shrewsbury Crown Court for various drugs offences in recent weeks.
Theft in Sutton Hill
Police in Telford are investigating after what appears to be an unusual theft in Sutton Hill. The incident occurred at an address on Sandcroft on Sunday 18th April.
Sometime between 7.30pm and 8.15pm, the victim came home from a weekend away and took her suitcase out of her car. She then realised she did not have a house key with her and quickly drove to her mother’s address to pick up a spare.

Knitted Nativity captivates children
Children passing by Wellington Library on Saturday were captivated by the new Nativity display being assembled in the Library window. Young children were tugging at their mother’s sleeve to stop and look as all the familiar figures appeared – Mary, Joseph, the Angel Gabriel, shepherds, animals, wise men – but each one had been hand-knitted by different members of the new Mothers Union branch at All Saints Wellington.
