Drug warrant executed in Oakengates
Three men have this morning been arrested after police officers from the North and Newport Local Policing Teams (LPTs) executed a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at a property on Holyhead Road in Oakengates.
The warrant was executed at 8am on Friday 3rd September as a result of intelligence developed by the Ketley & Oakengates LPT and information received from members of the public via the anonymous Crimestoppers telephone number.
Newport Swimming Pool refurbishment confirmed
Plans for a half million pound investment in Newport Swimming Pool as part of the Borough Towns Initiative regeneration programme are set to start on Monday 6 September.
Parts of the roof will be replaced and the installation of a new air handling unit and insulation within the pool hall will improve the experience for swimmers and spectators.
The pool will be closed to the public from Monday 6 September for an estimated 10-12 weeks to enable the essential maintenance and refurbishment work to be undertaken.
Newport man killed in crash
A motorcyclist who was killed in a four-vehicle collision near Shrewsbury at the weekend, was today named as Adrian Jones, aged 34, of Masons Place, Newport, Shropshire.
Mr Jones died when his two-tone black Suzuki motorcycle was involved in a crash on the B5062 at Uffington, near the crossroads for Haughton and Withington at about 9.20pm on Sunday.
A post mortem was held yesterday and an inquest is expected to open either later this week or next week.
Football activities for Newport youngsters
Young people in Newport are invited to attend two football events that are being held in and around the town tomorrow.
On Wednesday 25th August, Newport Local Policing Teams and Telford & Wrekin Council will be holding a number of five aside football matches using the inflatable football pitch. The sessions are aimed at five to 15 year-old boys and girls.
The first session will be held tomorrow from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Church Aston playing fields, and this will be followed quickly by a second session from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Tibberton playing fields.
Car damaged in Newport
Police in Telford are appealing for information following a criminal damage incident in Newport. The incident occurred outside an address on Vineyard Drive sometime between 8pm on Sunday 8th August and 7.30am on Monday 9th August.
Sometime overnight it appears that unknown individuals approached a silver VW Polo that was parked on the street and kicked off both wing mirrors.
It is thought that almost £200 of damage was caused to the car as a result of this incident.
Edgmond residents reminded of PACT events
Residents living in Edgmond near Newport are being reminded about two PACT events, an EVA (Environmental Visual Audit) and a PACT Meeting, that are being held on Monday 19th July.
PACT (Partners and Communities Together) will stage the events to allow members of the public to discuss community issues with the various represented organisations.
DIY Store robbery in Newport
Police in Telford are investigating following a robbery at the Focus DIY store in Newport. The incident occurred at the store on Audley Avenue at some time between 10.55pm and 11.30pm on Monday 12th July.
At around 11pm the company responsible for the alarm at the premises notified the key holders to warn them that the alarm had been activated. Two key holders for the business, a woman in her mid 40s and a woman in her mid 30s, quickly attended the scene and made their way inside the building through the staff entrance to turn off the alarm.

Crime in Newport
Police officers are appealing for information after a burglary in Newport. The incident occurred at an address on Lapworth Way on Saturday 26th June.
Sometime between 3am and 10am it appears that thieves entered the utility room at the property via an insecure back door and then made their way into the garage.
Once inside the garage they have grabbed a United Mothership BMX bike from inside before making their escape.
The stolen bike, of black colour, with additional features on it, is thought to be worth around £700.
