Free family celebration of St Georges Day
The St George’s Day celebration event is returning to Southwater Square in Telford next month and is shaping up to be bigger and bolder than last year with a chance to meet St George himself.
The event on Saturday, April 24, from 11am to 4pm will be themed around all things medieval and traditionally English with Morris Dancing, brass bands, dance and musical performances, falconry, themed arts and crafts and storytelling.
Oakengates Theatre @ the place invites youth participation
Comedian Stephen K Amos’ top-selling show, ‘The Feelgood Factor’, coincided with Oakengates Theatre’s celebration of the first anniversary of ‘A Night Less Ordinary’, the Arts Council scheme which provides free theatre tickets to people under 26.
One of the young people commented, “The show was great and we really enjoyed it. I think the scheme is a brilliant idea as it gives younger people a chance to experience different areas of culture which could broaden their interests.”
'Buck up' and see Telford play Wolves, tonight!
The Bucks have arranged a friendly with Wolves –and they want YOU to attend the match!
A spokesman said: “In the wake of the cancellation of the Farsley game the club have been fortunate enough to arrange a friendly with Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Wolves have arranged to send a strong squad as their game against Portsmouth is also off - we would like to urge supporters to come along and support the game. Spread the word and get friends along if possible.
They ‘laughed their pants off!’
With one of the toughest winters for years, Belly laughs were a rare commodity, especially on a recent cold February night but Horsehay Amateur Dramatic Society managed to pull it off, along with our pants, metaphorically speaking, by providing a rib-tickler farce with their production of Mike Harding’s – ‘Fur Coat and No Knickers’.
Public back council budget plans
A major consultation of groups and people by TWC shows overwhelming support for the Council’s proposed budget which would see council tax increase by the smallest amount for a decade.
This would see TWCs council tax bill, already the lowest in the Midlands this year for like-for-like services, rise by 1.9%, equivalent to 31p per week for the average borough home.
At a range of borough-wide consultation events, the Council asked over 1,350 people their views on the proposals.
Telford & Wrekin Music Under 18s Band Night
Five local young bands who are part of the successful Telford and Wrekin Music's Rock Schools are gearing up to support the very experienced “Capture Kendal” on Wednesday February 24th at The Place Oakengates. The gig will give an opportunity for bands from local schools and colleges to play on the same stage and experience working alongside this excellent three piece band.

Police Warning on thin ice games
With freezing temperatures forecast to continue for days, if not weeks, Shropshire police officers today warned people to stay off frozen lakes, rivers, canals or ponds for their own safety.
The warning comes after officers were called to Radbrook Pool in Bank Farm Road, Shrewsbury just before 4pm today (JAN 7), following reports of youngsters being out on the ice.
Borough applies for further funding for Telford Town Park project
Telford & Wrekin Council will apply for funding in the second stage of a lottery application for the multi-million pound development of Telford Town Park.
The Council is also set to submit a planning application outlining all aspects of the project – which will improve gateways, educational trails, signage and interpretation boards, picnic areas and learning and play activities.
The Council has already secured a Parks for the People grant from the Heritage and Big Lottery funds – which the Council match funded.
Christmas at Blists Hill
Over at Coalport China Museum you can marvel at the magnificent china displayed in the very buildings in which it was produced and see skilled crafts people at work; there’s even a special gallery for children where they can discover the secrets of how china was made. Then walk through the gas lit galleries and period room settings adorned with magnificent tiles at Jackfield Tile Museum. Displays include tiles from a London hospital children’s ward intricately painted with scenes from nursery rhymes.
