School leavers and other young people in Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to attend one of a series of five day projects aimed at boosting their motivation and inspiration.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Connexions 4 Youth service is running three separate five day projects that will involve a combination of visual arts, film making, photography, music sampling, animation, song writing, blogging, music production and other creative activities.

The five new post-holders who will be starting between now and the Autumn have filled roles in the agri-food and land-based research fields at the University College to address the global challenges of food and bio-energy security.

The research positions are in quantitative economics, social psychology, animal molecular biology and soil ecology.

PostHeaderIcon School film premiere highlights young people’s emotional wellbeing

A Telford primary school is holding a mini film premiere to showcase a specially-produced DVD that throws the spotlight on the emotional health and wellbeing of young people.

Pupils at Holmer Lake Primary School have starred in and helped to produce the film, which is titled “Mister Pirelli and his Mind-Blowing Corridor of Emotions”.

The premiere will be combined with a celebration of achievement of the pupils involved and takes place tomorrow (JULY 20) at 1.45pm.

Over 450 people came along to view and ask questions about the North West Relief Road at Shropshire Council's recent exhibitions in and around Shrewsbury.

These exhibitions, which took place from 22 April to 4 May 2010, were organised as part of the council's extensive public consultation to find out what people think about the road.

However, the council would like to reassure people that there is still time to have their say.

PostHeaderIcon Jail Sentence Welcomed by Senior Detective

A senior Shropshire detective has welcomed the jail sentence imposed on a 29-year-old man who helped run a cannabis farm in a rented industrial unit.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mick Homden said: “Those involved in the production and supply of drugs in the county will clearly receive little sympathy from the courts.

“Tackling those involved in drug dealing is a top priority for the police and will continue to be so. More than 10 defendants have received lengthy prison sentences at Shrewsbury Crown Court for various drugs offences in recent weeks.

PostHeaderIcon ‘Cannabis factory’ compost donated to Telford Community Project

A community project in Telford has benefited as a result of some excellent work done last month by the South Telford Local Policing Team (LPT).

On Friday 5th March, police officers from the LPT executed a drugs warrant at an address on Stebbings in Sutton Hill and discovered a cannabis factory where more than 500 plants were being grown.

PostHeaderIcon Travelink remains and advice service extended

The Travelink Office based at Telford Town Centre Bus station is to remain open. This decision was made following a wider transport review carried out by Telford and Wrekin Council last year, which initially put the future of the office in doubt.

After considerable consultation with a range of key users groups, including the Senior Citizens Transport Action Group, the Council has decided that the Travelink office should continue to provide face to face travel information and the sale of National Express and rail tickets - albeit at slightly reduced opening hours.

With one of the toughest winters for years, Belly laughs were a rare commodity, especially on a recent cold February night but Horsehay Amateur Dramatic Society managed to pull it off, along with our pants, metaphorically speaking, by providing a rib-tickler farce with their production of Mike Harding’s – ‘Fur Coat and No Knickers’.
