PostHeaderIcon Shropshire Licensees Urged to Join "Challenge 25" Scheme

The police Licensing Officer for Shropshire is urging licensees to adopt a national initiative to help them identify underage drinkers.

Mr Tony Mantle says licensees need to tighten up their checks or else risk being penalised, including possibly having their licence revoked.

His warning to publicans, nightclubs, restaurants, off-licences and other alcohol licence holders follows the shocking results of a test purchasing operation carried out by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by the police.

PostHeaderIcon Two New CSOs For North Shropshire

Two new Police Community Support Officers began work in north Shropshire today. They have joined West Mercia’s Local Policing teams in Market Drayton Town and Whitchurch Town areas.

CSO Andy Hudson has been appointed to the Market Drayton post working with PC Paul Frank and CSOs Andy King, Angeline Roche and Mike Ellis. CSO Alison Hodnett becomes part of the Whitchurch team, alongside PC Karena Evans and CSOs Tim Meredith, Graeme Baines and Laura Viner.

PostHeaderIcon Police Renew Witness Appeal Following Shrewsbury Stabbing

Police today renewed appeals for witnesses to a stabbing incident in a Shrewsbury street which left a 22-year-old man seriously injured.

The incident happened at around 9.50pm on Sunday in the Mardol area of the town centre.

The man, who received a chest wound, was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and later transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke. His condition today was described as stable.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are seeking witnesses to the assault.

PostHeaderIcon Parish Council Pleads Case for Local Policing in Shropshire

A Shropshire parish council is urging the government not to make spending cuts which could reduce Local Policing in communities across the county.

Condover Parish Council has been so impressed with its Local Policing team, it has written to West Mercia Chief Constable Paul West praising the service and voicing concern about proposed cuts.

Copies of the letter have also been sent to Shrewsbury & Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski and West Mercia Police Authority chairman Sheila Blagg.

PostHeaderIcon Police dog Errol shows three suspects the long arm of the paw!

Three men were arrested on suspicion of theft from a south Shropshire home after a police dog tracked and located them.

Police were called after the men were seen stealing two BMX bikes from outside a house in Vaughan Road, Cleobury Mortimer at around 1.30am on Wednesday.

The householder spotted and challenged them and the three ran off into nearby woods.

Officers attended within about 15 minutes of the report and carried out a search of the area, including PC Joe Anderson and his dog Errol.

Police are trying to identify this man in connection with the theft of alcohol from a Shrewsbury supermarket.

They believe he may have information which will help their investigation into the theft of two cases of bottled lager from the Co-op store on Mytton Oak Road in Copthorne.

The investigating officer, PC Simon Portman, said: “We would ask this young man to come forward as he may be able to help our inquiries. It’s thought he may have information which will assist the investigation.”

PostHeaderIcon Newport man killed in crash

A motorcyclist who was killed in a four-vehicle collision near Shrewsbury at the weekend, was today named as Adrian Jones, aged 34, of Masons Place, Newport, Shropshire.

Mr Jones died when his two-tone black Suzuki motorcycle was involved in a crash on the B5062 at Uffington, near the crossroads for Haughton and Withington at about 9.20pm on Sunday.

A post mortem was held yesterday and an inquest is expected to open either later this week or next week.

PostHeaderIcon Oswestry Fatal Road Collision - Victim Named

The motorcyclist killed in a road collision on the A483 near Oswestry on Sunday, has been named as Alan Hickman, aged 62, of Church Road, Wolverhampton.

Mr Hickman died when his yellow Triumph motorcycle crashed into a tree near Mile End roundabout shortly after 1pm. He was formally identified this afternoon.

It's thought he was involved in a collision with another motorcycle travelling in the same direction towards Welshpool after completing an overtaking manoeuvre. His machine veered across the road and struck a tree.
