Greenhous staff get into training for a 90 mile bicycle ride for charity
Greenhous employees from Shrewsbury and Telford’s Vauxhall and Saab dealerships are swapping cars for bicycles as they prepare to help raise money for the Layla Jane Pitt Remembrance Trust by participating in a gruelling 90-mile cycle ride from Telford to Porthmadog in North Wales later this month. The bike ride will see the team of sponsored cyclists travel up and over the challenging Berwyn Mountains, climbing more than 800 metres above sea level, and then back down again into the coastal town of Porthmadog at around 4pm.
Rural watchdog backs fuel price hike-hit drivers
A rural watchdog has lent its support to countryside motorists feeling the pinch due to hikes in fuel duty.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) in the West Midlands says motorists planning to drive to visit family this August bank holiday are being hit with record fuel costs.
The increase of 4p would see prices jump from today’s average price of 116.65p to around 121p before the end of the month and comes after the price of crude oil has steadily increased. Filling up a tank in an average car will cost families £7 more than a year ago.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury is urging town residents and businesses to get behind final preparations for this year’s In Bloom campaign.
Heart of England judges will visit the town on July 20 when hundreds of floral hanging baskets, planters and containers, installed by the Town Council, will be judged against exacting criteria.
Good Samaritan motorbike cop helps stranded family AND boosts arrest record!
A police motorcyclist has been hailed a Good Samaritan after coming to the aid of a family from Surrey, stranded in Shrewsbury with nowhere to stay.
And in doing so, PC Danny Yates also managed to arrest a suspected drink driver while escorting the family to their eventual destination.
PC Yates was on patrol last month when he came across the family’s vehicle at about 11.30pm at night. He realised something was wrong and stopped to ask if he could help them.
Train chaos at Wellington
People travelling between Wellington and Shrewsbury and Wellington and Wales were delayed due to a combination of factors. A train broke down blocking the line and failed signals caused delays of over 30 minutes on some trains.

'Dogs, Cats and Small Animals all hoping to score a new home this world cup'
World Cup fever has gripped the Nation and now the animals at the RSPCA Bryn-y-Maen Animal Centre have joined in the fun. Several of the centres most needy canines have picked a team to support during the competition.
All dogs are hoping that their lucky teams may help them find wonderful new homes and everyone is hoping they could be settled down with a new family ready to enjoy the world cup final on 11th July.
Good weather forecast boosts County Show ticket sales
Organisers of the first ever Shropshire County Show are gearing up for a great weekend as forecasts for good weather boost ticket sales. The agricultural show will take place on Saturday and Sunday and is expected to attract thousands of people from Shropshire, Wales, the Midlands and beyond.
The Met Office have predicted a scorching few days with the rain holding off until the back end of next week and families from far and wide will be enjoying the Summer at the Berwick Road Showground in Shrewsbury.
Motorcyclist Killed in Shropshire
A motorcyclist who died following a collision with a car in north Shropshire on Saturday, is believed to be a 36-year-old man from North Wales.
He was airlifted to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham but was pronounced dead soon after arrival.
His motorcycle was involved in a collision with a car on the A495 at Hardwick, near Ellesmere at 6.11pm on Saturday. Two women in the car, the driver and her passenger, escaped injury.
