The police Licensing Officer for Shropshire is urging licensees to adopt a national initiative to help them identify underage drinkers.

Mr Tony Mantle says licensees need to tighten up their checks or else risk being penalised, including possibly having their licence revoked.

His warning to publicans, nightclubs, restaurants, off-licences and other alcohol licence holders follows the shocking results of a test purchasing operation carried out by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by the police.

With over 650 schemes and almost 15,000 households under its protection, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in Telford & Wrekin continues to go from strength-to-strength.

However, Telford's NHW Administrator Mrs Anne Walker is again encouraging residents of Telford & Wrekin to consider forming their own scheme if their area doesn’t already have one.

PostHeaderIcon Broseley Drugs Warrant - Man Arrested

Police carried out a search warrant at a house in Broseley last night as part of the on-going campaign targeting people in the Bridgnorth area suspected of being involved in illegal drugs.

A man in his thirties was arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis, a controlled Class B drug.

The search was made at a home in Foundry Lane at around 9pm after magistrates granted a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

A small amount of cannabis and several associated items were recovered by officers. The man has been given a formal police warning.

PostHeaderIcon Shropshire Licensees Fail Police Sting

Pubs, clubs and restaurants across Shropshire have been caught out selling alcohol to underage council spies in a “sting” operation mounted by Trading Standards officers and police.

Licensees in three towns fell foul of the law in a series of test purchase visits during Operation Knight, a joint exercise by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by West Mercia Police.

The two agencies are warning pub landlords and others in the licensed trade they risk being closed down if they ‘persist’ in selling alcoholic drink to young people under 18.

Police in Shropshire today renewed warnings for horse and stable owners to ensure their properties were secure after riding tackle was stolen from a Whitchurch.

Although tack thefts remain relatively unusual in the county, when they happen they tend to happen in spates and people are urged to take steps to reduce the risk of their premises being targeted.

The most recent theft happened sometime between Saturday (AUG 14) and Sunday (AUG 15) in an isolated location near Whitchurch.

Police in Telford are investigating following an assault in the town centre. The incident occurred outside Vox nightclub in Central Square on Friday 30th July.

Sometime between 9pm and 10.30pm a 33-year-old man began to walk from Central Square, Telford, to the bus station when he became involved in an altercation with another man who had asked him for a cigarette.

PostHeaderIcon Windows smashed in Plough Road, Wellington

Police officers are investigating an act of criminal damage in Wellington. The incident occurred on Plough Road on Monday 26th July.

Sometime between 6.15pm and 6.30pm a member of the public witnessed two unknown individuals - a man and a woman - walking down Plough Road when an argument started between the two of them.

Eventually the woman 'stormed off' and when she did the man turned back in the direction that he had come from. Without warning he then punched out two windows of a business premises on the street causing around £200 of damage.

Shropshire Council has installed a new school warning sign outside St. Lucia's CE Primary School in Upton Magna, following concerns from pupils.

The sign, installed to encourage drivers to slow down when passing the school, was designed by competition winners Annabelle Shedden and Jake Reacord.

PostHeaderIcon Nuisance Drivers Educated in Oswestry

Young drivers who cause a nuisance in Oswestry are being advised about their conduct as part of an ongoing crackdown on 'boy racers'.

Alongside enforcement by officers around the Central Car Park area, where a number of complaints had been received about anti-social driving and excessive noise in the evenings, drivers are being offered words of advice about the impact their actions are having on the community.

The car park is now closed between 8pm and 6am every night and coned off to prevent people driving onto it.

Police officers in Telford are investigating following an incident in Wellington where two men were assaulted. The incident occurred on Station Road in the early hours of Sunday 25th July.

Sometime between 2am and 2.30am, shortly after the two victims - an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man – left the Station Hotel they were approached aggressively by a group of unknown men.

One of the men asked the victims if they had a problem and, although they said they didn’t, without warning several of the unknown men began to punch and kick the victims.
