Children to be issued with tag ruby certificates
On Friday 15th January, a group of school children in Madeley will be issued with certificates by members of the South Telford Local Policing Team for taking part in a series of successful tag rugby sessions.
The youngsters – aged between 8 and 10 - from Alexander Fleming School will be presented with their certificates by Community Support Officer Shane Goodman at a specially arranged presentation that will take place at the end of the morning’s school assembly.
Wolves Donate Soccer Kit to Shrewsbury Youngsters
A children’s soccer team from Shrewsbury called the Harlescott Wolves has received official backing from it Premiership namesakes. Mighty Wolverhampton Wanderers has not only given the youngsters its blessing, but provided almost £2,000 in sponsorship, including two complete playing strips.
The Harlescott Wolves was set up by the Local Policing Team who felt regular football sessions would provide a healthy activity for bored youngsters who might otherwise become involved in anti-social behaviour.
Students head for South Africa
Students from a Telford college are poised to pre-empt Premiership football stars like Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Steven Gerrard by going on a trip of a lifetime to South Africa.
The group of six pupils from Sutherland Business and Enterprise College will fly on Friday (DEC 11) to the country that will host football’s FIFA World Cup next summer.
Pupils and staff from the school will be spending three days in Johannesburg before travelling to neighbouring country Lesotho, where an international youth and student co-operative will be held.

Kenny Dalglish Brings Football Project to a Close
Youngsters who took part in a summer police football project funded by McDonalds will meet a living legend from the sport as the scheme comes to an end for 2009.Former Liverpool FC player and manager Kenny Dalglish plans to attend Shrewsbury’s Power League pitches on Monday(OCT 26) to present the Man of the Match trophy following the ceremonial final game.
The team from Meole Brace have already been crowned champions of the tournament for the second year running, but will play runners-up Monkmoor once again in the friendly, kicking off at 3pm.
New sponsorship means brighter future for Comets
A new-housing development group in Telford is getting ready to cheer Lawley’s budding football stars on from the sidelines, after agreeing a sponsorship deal with its local junior team.
The Ironstone Developer Group (IDG), a consortium of Barratt Homes, George Wimpey and Persimmon Homes, has pledged its support to Lawley Comets FC, a Telford Junior League club which runs training sessions for players aged five to 13 years at Lawley Playing Fields.
Tag! It’s a hit!
Tag rugby sessions for young people in Newport have been rolled out again this year due to their massive success. The sessions, which are run by Newport Local Policing Team, will be running in Newport junior schools from this term onwards. This follows the success of the tag rugby sessions last year, which saw young people taking part in local and regional competitions.

Community Cricket match “knocked them for Six”
Participants at The community Twenty/20 cricket tournament held at Wellington Cricket Club yesterday were knocked for six by the success of the event, Wellington News has learned. It was organised by the Arleston & College Local Policing Team and Local Police Officer PC Sam Anderson was happy to agree that the event was a great success.
Wolves experience for local youngsters
Young people from the Telford Central Local Policing area are again being offered the unique opportunity to experience three memorable days of football related activities at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. The initiative - organised by Community Support Officer Ann Moore and part funded by Telford & Wrekin Council - is offering young people between the ages of 13 and 18 the chance to spend three days visiting the table topping Championship club.
