Bucks held in Kings Lynn stalemate
King's Lynn 1-1 AFC Telford United
Two goals in the final ten minutes ensured that honours ended even after this full-blooded and at times ill-tempered encounter at the Walks. Telford looked set to snatch victory when Andy Brown found the net, but the Linnets hit back shortly after through Luke Graham to snatch a point, writes Steve Humbles.
Danny Carey-Bertram cut in from the right and unleashed a fierce left-footed shot which was well-saved by Scott Howie on 17 minutes, but in a half of few clear chances the Bucks were indebted to an excellent save from Ryan Young late on to keep the scores level. Home skipper Adam Smith's deflected free-kick looked certain to find the far corner but Young got down superbly to his right to push the ball round the post with 42 minutes on the clock.
After the restart Young again excelled to keep King's Lynn at bay, firstly producing a fantastic one-handed save to tip Jack Defty's fierce drive over the bar on 51 minutes and then denying Julian Joachim at point-blank range after the Bucks had lost possession in midfield. The introduction of Danny Edwards added a different dimension to Telford as an attacking force and the former Redditch man was unfortunate not to open his Telford account just two minutes after entering the action. His dangerous cross from the right appeared to be dropping into the far corner of the net but the ball rebounded off the far post with Howie beaten and Gavin Cowan's follow-up was blocked. There were appeals for a penalty on 67 minutes when Carey-Bertram looked to be tripped in the box and - as Telford continued to exert pressure on the Linnets' goal - Carey-Bertram then missed the Bucks' best chance of the game on 70, lifting over the crossbar from close-range following superb work by Brown on the left. As the game entered the final twenty minutes, play became increasingly stretched. Adam Smith's free-kick from the edge of the area just cleared the bar on 74 minutes after Jimmy Turner had been penalised for fouling Joachim, whilst Jamie Vermiglio shot wide from Martyn Naylor's corner on 76. Then, with 80 minutes played, Telford had the goal they had threatened as Edwards produced an excellent cross from the left and Carl Rodgers' header was deflected past Howie by Andy Brown. It didn't prove enough to win the game, however, as draw specialists King's Lynn equalised with four minutes remaining to record their twelfth stalemate of the campaign; Luke Graham firing home after Young had made an excellent reaction stop to deny an inital effort.
