A Shropshire woman whose mother died of a heart attack on Christmas Day in 2007, is taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) High Peak Trail Winter Challenge, on Sunday 22 November 2009.

Deborah Weaver (40), from Telford, felt inspired to take on the 17 mile hike and make a difference in memory of her mother. Deborah will be walking with her brother Mark and friend Joanne and hopes that the people of Shropshire will support their efforts and sign up for the event.

Deborah said, “My mum was 61 years old when she had a heart attack and her sudden death came has a huge shock to me and my family. My partner had heart bypass a few years at the age of 38. The BHF mean a great deal to me and I am really looking forward to raising money towards further research in heart disease.”

People are more likely to die of heart and circulatory disease than any other serious illness, including cancer. Money raised from the hike will help the nation’s heart charity continue to fund pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease that saves and improves the lives of vulnerable men, women and children.

Entries are now being taken for this event, which covers 17 miles through the spectacular Peak District and is sponsored by Ordnance Survey.

Daniel Routt, BHF Regional Events Organiser, said: “I would like to express our sincere thanks to Deborah for participating in this event. Her support for the BHF is hugely appreciated and I hope others will take the opportunity to sign up and take part.”

All participants will receive a free event hat to help keep off the winter chill. Entry for the event is £15 for adults and £5 for children (aged 16 years or under).
