Telford & Wrekin Council Libraries are launching the Six Book Challenge 2010. It’s is a UK-wide annual scheme for less confident adult readers which invites people to read six books and record their reading in a diary.

Now in its third successful year, the Six Book Challenge was launched in 2008 by The Reading Agency - the charity which inspirespeople to read more.
Telford and Wrekin Libraries are encouraging adults to read six books from their First Steps collections until the end of May.

The First Steps collections include books to help with improving literacy and numeracy, and a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books aimed at less confident adult readers.

Borough libraries are providing incentives including pens, a mug and reuseable bag to encourage participants to keep reading. Everyone who completes the challenge will be entered into a prize draw to win a book token and everyone who completes a reading diary will earn a certificate.

Telford’s Linda Jordan completed the challenge last year and finds she can now understand different styles of writers and it has allowed her to escape to other worlds. She said: “If you can read a book you have a friend for life”.
