Visit your local library and improve your health
Borough residents can find out how to improve their health by visiting their local library during Health Information Week, 6 to 11 July. Throughout the week, a range of free events will take place to promote health. On 9 July (12noon - 4pm), NHS Telford and Wrekin will offer residents mini health checks at Telford Library whilst parents/carers with children aged five to eight months can also assess their child's health and well-being by logging onto www.nhs.uk/lifecheck on one of the library computers for free.
There's also the chance to join in a Walkabout Wrekin Walk around Telford Town Park will starts at 2pm (walkers are asked to meet in Telford Library foyer from 1.30pm.)
On 10 July, children can get their taste buds going and join in the 'Fruit 'n' vegetorium' which takes place at Hadley Learning Community (10.30 - 12 noon) and at Telford Library (2 - 2.30pm). All those who come along to this interactive story telling event will be able to sample fruit and veg and to meet characters, Beetie Brassica and Pomona O'Calabrese.
Cllr Miles Hosken, Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries, said: "There's so much going in libraries across the borough during Health Information Week from mini health checks to special story telling sessions. I'd really encourage people of all ages to come along as this is all part of the council's drive to promote learning and well-being in a fun and informal setting. If you've got a child aged five to eight months, you could also log onto one of the library computers for free and assess your child's health on the new NHS Lifecheck site."
Mum of 11 week old Grace, Jemma Morgan, from Trench said: "I'm going to come along to Telford Library's Bounce 'n' Rhyme session during Health Information Week. It will be good for Grace's development and I'll meet other mums so I'm looking forward to it."
A host of books and information from local health organisations on healthy eating and well-being will also be displayed in libraries throughout the week
