Teen still missing
Hadley teenager Jade Cripps-Campbell is still missing from her Caldera Road, Hadley, Telford, home. Her family has issued an appeal for Jade to either get in touch with them or return home. Anyone with information about Jade is asked to call Telford Police on 0300 333 3000.
Drumming up awards
The cream of the nation's drumming talent has been praised for an "outstanding demonstration of their technical ability, musicality and dynamic passion" for the instrument at a major national final that took place in Telford. The ten finalists showcased the depth of ability and young talent that Britain can boast in the final of the Young Drummer of the Year event at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place. The competition was won by Richard Rayner, from Chelmsford, Essex, who triumphed ahead of an original 500 entries from sticksmen from all over the country.
Mark Pritchard wants better services
Mark Pritchard MP met visually impaired "Aunt Megan" and Andrew Sachs at a Parliamentary reception calling for increased Audio Description for the 3,000 blind and partially sighted people living in Shropshire. Audio Description (AD) is like a narrator telling a story, an additional commentary describes body language, expressions and movements that someone with sight loss would not be able to see, making the story clear through sound.
Youngsters Praised
Youngsters who signed up to a police inclusion programme in Much Wenlock, have been praised for their hard work in carrying out countryside maintenance work. A group of around 15 boys and girls spent part of their half-term break helping the National Trust with clearance work on Wenlock Edge. Much Wenlock CSO Mike Watkins was full of praise for their efforts. "They worked under the guidance of the National Trust wardens clearing overgrown trees and bushes to allow livestock to graze which in turn enables wild flowers to flourish.
Russell Kane comes to Telford
Double if.comedy Award nominee and host of BBC Radio 2's Out To Lunch RUSSELL KANE is to embark on his first national tour. Following the sell-out success of his critically acclaimed stand-up show Gaping Flaws - shortlisted for Edinburgh Festival Fringe's highest accolade this year - and hot on the heels of his BBC ONE Live at the Apollo performance, RUSSELL will play 39 gigs nationwide from 5th January 2009.
Green light for AbDab revamp
Telford & Wrekin Council's vision to completely redevelop educational provision in the borough has taken a major step forward - with plans to build a state of the art learning community at Abraham Darby Academy given the green light. The decision means the existing school buildings will be replaced by a new senior school, a co-located primary school and a leisure and community centre as part of the plans. Abraham Darby will be the first school redeveloped as part of a massive revamp of educational sites in Telford & Wrekin, known locally as Campus Telford and Wrekin.
Missing Hadley teen
Telford Police, together with the family, are expressing concern for a Telford girl that has been reported as missing for several days. Jade Cripps-Campbell was reported as missing by her mother late on Monday night (23.2.09). It is thought that Jade had been in the Leegomery and Wellington areas with friends and simply didn't return to her Caldera Road, Hadley home. Jade is 14 years old and described as being of Afro-Caribbean decent, 5'5" tall, medium build with black straight hair that is shoulder length.
Giant Helicopter to star
One of Shropshire's hidden gems, the Michael Beetham Conservation Centre (MBCC) at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford will be opening its doors to visitors for one special week, from Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th March 2009. Opened in May 2002 by Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Michael Beetham, the MBCC is regarded as one of the world's foremost centres of excellence in aircraft conservation and restoration.
Next phase of Woodside regeneration
The next phase of the regeneration of Woodside has moved a step closer as the main project partners have begun to create a regeneration strategy for the remainder of the estate. With the recent completion of the West 2 area, the second phase of the regeneration of Woodside, attention will now turn to the north of the estate. The main funders for the scheme will be Telford & Wrekin Council and the Homes and Communities Agency. It is expected that a housing association and house builders will also have key roles to play.
Theatre plan to focus on crime
Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin's youth offending service is aiming to build on two successful government inspections by involving young people in a targeted programme of dramatic arts. The plans are the upshot of the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Youth Offending Service's first annual staff conference, which set the service's priorities for the forthcoming year. Over 70 Youth Offending Service staff and representatives of partner agencies witnessed a performance by young people from Sandwell's youth offending team, who have worked with leading drama company Recre8.
