PostHeaderIcon Assault at Telford Bus Station

Telford Police officers are appealing for witnesses following an assault at Telford Shopping Centre. The incident occurred at Coach Central on Wednesday 28th April.

Sometime between 10.30pm and 10.45pm, while the victim, a vulnerable 42 year-old man, was waiting for a bus, he became aware of a young man having an argument with a young woman. She is believed to be the girlfriend of the man she was arguing with.

A second young woman was also involved in this argument and eventually the young man stormed off.

PostHeaderIcon Primary school praised by government inspectors

A Telford Catholic primary school has been rated as satisfactory with good features, providing an adequate standard of education, by government inspectors.

St Mary’s Catholic Primary in Madeley provides a “welcoming and friendly environment” with the care and well-being of pupils at the heart of the school, says the OFSTED report.

The 93 pupil school was inspected in March over a period of two days and inspectors found that pupils say they are looked after well and feel safe and secure in school.

PostHeaderIcon Last chance to see relief road exhibition

Shropshire Council is encouraging everyone who hasn't yet seen the exhibition on the Shrewsbury North West Relief Road, to go along to the final one next week (Tuesday 4 May 2010).

This exhibition, which forms part of an extensive consultation, will take place at The Grapes in Oxon from 2pm until 8pm.

As well as information boards explaining the details of the scheme, officers will be on hand to answer any questions.

People will also be able to 'fly over' the road as part of a special 3D video, which will be screened at the event.

West Mercia Police has this week launched its exciting and brand initiative – Cop Cards – a new way of informing children about the work that police do where they live.

The force is hoping that collecting the new cards will be a fun way for children to get to know their local officers and CSOs and learning essential safety messages.

A senior Shropshire detective has welcomed the jail sentence imposed on a 29-year-old man who helped run a cannabis farm in a rented industrial unit.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mick Homden said: “Those involved in the production and supply of drugs in the county will clearly receive little sympathy from the courts.

“Tackling those involved in drug dealing is a top priority for the police and will continue to be so. More than 10 defendants have received lengthy prison sentences at Shrewsbury Crown Court for various drugs offences in recent weeks.

PostHeaderIcon Council to honour the Rifles Regiment with the Freedom of the Borough

Telford & Wrekin Council is set to honour the Rifles Regiment with the Freedom of the Borough.

This will be the first time Telford & Wrekin has honoured a regiment with the tribute and it is the highest honour that the authority can bestow.

Last year the council took the decision to honour the Rifles and the ceremony will take place in The Arena at Telford Town Park on Saturday, May 29.

The Rifles Regiment is the largest infantry regiment in the British Army, consisting of five regular and two territorial battalions, plus a number of companies.
