Determined Gunnell must get past legend Davis

Telford snooker ace Adrian Gunnell is determined to qualify for the final stages of the Maplin UK Championship in his home town - but will first have to beat a six-times World Champion.
Gunnell heads to the English Institute of Sport - Sheffield next week for the qualifying rounds of snooker's second biggest ranking event, and will have to win two matches to make it to the venue stages at the Telford International Centre from December 13 to 21.

O'Connor set to lead Wellington again

Shropshire bowler Anthony O’Connor will again captain Wellington in the Birmingham Premier League’s first division  next season.
He was re-elected at the Orleton Park club’s annual meeting and it will be his fourth season in charge after taking over from Gavin Byram.
The club will have a new second team skipper with Steve Moules taking over from Dave Street.  The club’s three other captains – 3rd XI Duncan Taylor, 4th XI Derick Benting and Sunday Glenn Trott – were all re-elected.

Away Trophy tie for Bucks

The draw for the First Round of the FA Carlsberg Trophy has been made and AFC Telford United have been drawn away to either FC Utd of Manchester or Boston United.

The fixture between FC Utd of Manchester and the Pilgrims will be played tonight after a postponement last Saturday due to a waterlogged pitch.

Trophy triumph for Bucks

AFC Telford United put Tuesday’s FA Cup defeat at Southend behind them as they progressed to the First round of the FA Trophy with a 2-0 win over Gainsborough Trinity.
Bucks manager Rob Smith made five changes to his weary side. He recalled defender Indy Khela and reverted to his favoured five-man defence, Steve Jagielka started in midfield with Jon Adams getting a well-earned rest while Terry Fearns and Danny Carey-Bertram spearheaded the attack. Carl Rodgers continued to deputise for the injured Jamie Vermiglio.

Derby joy for Amateurs

Wellington Amateurs continue to tighten their stranglehold on the West Midlands Regional League Division One top spot with a 2-0 win at local rivals Bridgnorth Town Reserves. Ex-Town forward Lewis Welch enjoyed his return to his former stomping ground as he opened the scoring.
Midfielder Sean Hennessey completed the win with a second for the Amateurs who are now nine points clear of nearest rivals Warley Development and Bilston Town.
 

Robertson Targets Telford Triumph

Neil Robertson hopes to build on his victory in the Bahrain Snooker Championship by winning the Maplin UK Championship in Telford next month.
The Australian left-hander won the third ranking title of his career last Saturday by beating Matthew Stevens 9-7 in the final of the first world ranking tournament ever staged in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
And Robertson is now looking ahead to the Maplin UK Championship, which runs from December 13 to 21 at the Telford International Centre.

Plucky Bucks bow out with pride

AFC Telford United's FA Cup campaign is over for another year after the Bucks suffered a heartbreaking defeat at Southend last night.
Rob Smith's side put up a spirited performance and at times had Southend on the rack with home keeper Steve Mildenhall required to make two outstanding saves to deny Lee Moore and Andy Brown with the score at 0-0.

Fans send Adams to Wembley

Bucks cup hero Jon Adams has been rewarded for his two goals against Southend ten days ago with a VIP trip to Wembley on May 30 to watch the FA Cup final. The popular midfielder topped a online FA poll for the Player of the First Round. He won with a total of 46 per cent of the votes, finishing 16 per cent ahead of his nearest rival.

Football project hailed a success

A football project aimed at providing young people in Telford with a unique chance to experience life at a Championship club has been hailed a massive success. A total of 56 young people - aged between 9 and 17 - from the borough were invited to Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club during half term week to take part in six memorable days of football related activities.
